That's too bad Angela. But the No Trespassing signs don't apply if you have permission. Maybe your friend can hook you up with the land owner? Keep us posted!

Wayne,

I did check out the swimming hole. My friend had told me that it belonged to someone, but that he didn't care who used it. (My friend said his family had been using it for years!)

Well, I went there with high hopes, but there were no trespassing signs on the trees, so I promptly left! (The site did look promising, though...)

Checked out the local caches, and there was one that caught my eye. There was a cache on the corner of a road about a couple of miles away. The clue was that it was at the point where you turn the corner to go up a road to an old swimming hole. Apparently, back in the day, when teens got their drivers licenses, they would drive to the swimming hole with their friends, and it was the local hangout. I called a friend, and he told me that it was heavily used for many years, but that the last time he tried to visit with his twin boys, someone came over and told them to leave, saying he had bought the property, including the swimming hole. I was so excited about checking it out, but maybe it won't be possible after all!

My friend did tell me about another swimming hole about 25 minutes away, so I'll check that out instead. But I just wanted to update to say I had taken your suggestion, and you're right; there are a lot of promising leads to be found at the geocaching.com website! Thanks!

Thanks for the inspiration! I'm actually a member of geocaching.com, although I haven't actually done much geocaching. When I have time to sit down and relax, I'm going to make myself a nice cup of tea and look for some promising hunting sites using the info that the geocaching folks have posted. There are so many potential hunting sites out there, just waiting to be discovered!

Actually, there's another hobby that is similar to geocaching called Letterboxing. It works like a treasure hunt, and participants leave clues for others to find. You can type in your zip, and a list will come up of letterboxes within a certain radius. If you select a location, then click 'Clue', information on the location will come up. Here's the link:
